Thirteen Great Places to Donate Money This Holiday Season!

This time of year seems to bring a lot of generosity for some people, and some are often looking for good organizations to donate to. Here is a list of some of our favorites!

1. Your local church. I don't know about you but we go to a very small country church that could always use donations. I've never heard of a church that didn't though!

2. The Salvation Army. So conveniently located in every Wal-Mart and other fine store. Just listen for the sound of bells!

3. Goodwill. They help people with developmental disabilities find jobs. Even your old stuff can help make this organization run!

4. Helping Hands. Our organization or choice this year, that provides chickens, goats and wells to impoverished nations.

5. Word of Life. A Christian youth organization that has summer youth camps around the world, providing low or no cost camps for kids! (Our fave is the one in Hungary!)

6. Mental Health America. This is an organization that promotes knowledge of Mental Health issues and helps those with MI's to better their lives with education, employment and housing. (This was where I worked in my pre-momma days!)

7. Make a Wish. Does this organization need an explanation? Pretty much everyone is familiar with it and it just keeps getting better with how it helps kids in not so good situations!

8. Habitat for Humanity. Seriously, can you go wrong with helping people have homes?

9. Your local foodbank. They could always use more food and monetary donations!

10. Your local homeless shelter. You can give monetary donations or the gift of time this Christmas!

11. Your local humane society. Gifts of dog/cat food donations or monetary donations are always appreciated. They can usually use volunteers to help with the animals or clean up as well!

12. Your favorite missionary. Most missionaries are seriously just barely making it as they are paid next to nothing. Why not give them an extra Christmas present this year?

13. FAME. FAME is an organization that provides medications around the world to people who otherwise would not have had it, while spreading the love of Christ.

Thirteen Signs Fall is Here 1. The changing leaves, suddenly yellows and oranges everywhere! 2. The crunch beneath your feet as you walk, those same leaves all over the place! 3. Apple everything! We've been to two orchards and I'm still loving it! 4. A 20 degree drop in temperature in 2 days! Crazy! 5. Sweaters. They have been hauled out and the tanks put away. 6. Yellow and brown crops. Since we live in the country we see corn and beans everywhere that certainly have that autumn look! 7. Down comforter. It has been put back on the bed as these nights are getting chilly! 8. The heat is on. Yep, we finally caved when it got down to 40 the other night...whew, chilly! 9. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. So all the stores are making way for their Christmas stuff already. Yesterday I was in Kohl's and their was Christmas music playing. A little early if you ask me. 10. Darker colored clothes. Have you noticed the color of clothes changes in the fall. It seems like a lot of Earth tones and just darker shades. Good bye pinks, whites and pastels. Hello greens, creams and oranges. 11. Comfort food. All of a sudden I've been wanting to make chili's and pot pies. Definitely a sign the season is changing. I've even been dreaming about baking cookies lately! 12. Shorter days. Yep, the days are definitely getting shorter. I've been noticing it as I give the peanut earlier baths and feel like bed time should be a lot earlier than it used to be. I will say the peanut does not notice this and disagrees wholeheartedly that it should come sooner! 13. Allergy season. I have asthma so whew, these time of year wreaks havoc on my system, got some issues going on. I still love it though and look forward to fall every year!

Thirteen People That I Can Honestly Say I Am Glad I Am Not

1. Britney Spears...do I really need to explain?

2. President Bush...the stress would probably kill me

3. Hillary Clinton...my cheeks would hurt too much from that fake smile

4. Paris Hilton...prison stripes don't work for me

5. Angelina Jolie...I couldn't sleep at night if I stole somebody's husband

6. John Edwards...the people in his own state wouldn't vote for him

7. Rudy Guliani...seriously, not one win, just embaressing

8. Montel Williams...he's out of a job today

9. Dell, IBM, Intell...seriously must be hard to compete with Apple

10. Tom Cruise...seriously, the guy is just weird

In light of celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. day this week, I wanted to list 13 of the inspirational people in the history of the U.S. as seen by me, anyway. So, here goes...

1. Corrie Ten Boom, writer of the Hiding Place

2. Anne Frank, author of The Diary of Anne Frank

3. Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States

4. Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin Roosevelt

5. Billy Graham, famed preacher

6. Jane Addams, founder of Hull House in Chicago-changed the way immigrants and the poor were treated

7. Thomas Edison, inventor that holds the records for number of US patents

8. Martha Stewart, I know strange but she inspires me to create and that's a good thing!

9. On that note, Paula Deen inspires me to not be afraid of the kitchen!

10. Rosa Parks, who kept her seat on that bus!

11. Dorthea Dixon-social reformer for the rights of the Mentally Ill

12. Bill Bright-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. He just started with reaching out to a couple of people on a beach and he turned it into one of the biggest ministries in the world.

13. And, of course, Martin Luther King, Jr, who inspires us all to be...well...better!

I decided to do something a little different. Here I have listed the 13 Most Populous Nations. I find the list interesting particularly due to how many I know virtually nothing about. Isn't that crazy? All those people but because they are 3rd world, our schools just pass them by. So not good. If I homeschool the peanut she's going to know about them!

Thirteen Things about AmyMy husband has recently decided we need another dog to humor Ellie. I tend to disagree. So, here are my Thirteen Reasons I do not need another dog. 1. Dog hair, enough said 2. Babies crawl on the ground, puppies poop on the ground, babies put everything in their mouths, including poop I'm sure 3. Higher vet bills 4. More excrement to clean up 5. More money on dog training classes 6. More time needed to train the dog 7. Having to walk another dog in the cold Indiana weather 8. Puppies chew things 9. Pee does not come out of carpet 10. My bed is too small for another dog 11. Loud noises, ie barking, makes me shaky 12. Frankly, dogs smell. Don't you hate that on your hands? 13.
